One Time Spaceman is playing Sweet Springs Saloon in Los Osos on Saturday January 7th at 9pm and are to play original American music from a wide variety of genres. One Time Spaceman has been declared “the people’s band” by some of the people who live in their neighborhood. They romanticize Charles Bukowski and have memorized The Big Lebowski. In their mystifying sound-scapes, Johnny Cash is known to throw his whites in the wash with Pavement stains. Pop Staples and Albert King have light skinned kin who sponge at the rock when it is double overhead. Clarence White is their favorite Burrito and Jell-o Biafra is considered neat-o. There’s a good chance they won’t play that song by Mumford and Sons, or any covers at all. Or, they may play three hours of Elston Gunn songs. Or the theme to Top Gun by way of Mutabaruka. Or Blue Suede Shoes ala Merrell Fankhauser. Or a bluegrass version of The Electric Spanking of War Babies. Ya just never know, but you are certain to get a healthy dose of original, blues based rock’n'roll. The band recently laid down 25 original tracks (insert “your mom” joke here) that will be narrowed down to 11 or so for a new CD due out early in 2012. Their mojo is working. Their herky is jerking. The sets are tight and the tights are set. Many, many fun.

In the band’s spare time they procure wine for celestial Anatidaes.

The band is in the process of recording a debut CD. We went in and recorded 25 original roughs (as if we were blasting through a night at Villa Creek) and will now choose 11 or so to dial in. The hardest part of this process is choosing a direction, as the band swerves between rock, surf, blues, jazz and country with relative ease. Once we narrow things down a little bit we will start posting tracks. See Spaceman get muggy:
